ABOUT
I’m SGT Brad VandenBerg (Ret), CO of Wheels for Warriors. I was stationed at 10th Mountain Division, Ft. Drum, New York from 2004-2009. I was in A4-25FA and deployed to Camp Blessing in the Korangul Valley, Afghanistan in 2006-2007. I was our sections Ammo Team Chief and certified as Howitzer Section Chief during our deployment. We encountered numerous battles, provided superior artillery support in many urgent and extremely important missions including Operation Mountain Lion that was a pivotal mission for US Armed Forces to gain ground in our Area of Operations. We shot over 5,000 artillery rounds out of two different artillery pieces with historical successes on the battlefield.
Throughout that deployment I received multiple injuries that later ended my stellar Army career with a medical retirement. I have always been in the motorcycle community and had a motorcycle on base while serving. I returned home January 2009 and began my transition back to being a beaten, free, citizen. I found myself feeling my best on my motorcycle and around like minded individuals. I’d offer posts of my daily rides on social media and also started to advocate for fellow veterans, their earned benefits and resources offered through my local VA. One day I was contacted through social media from an old Army buddy who was also medically retired from Active Duty, from my Unit. He expressed that the doctors suggested that he should sell his bike due to his loss of strength and range of motion in his leg. I had a better idea.. that a simple side car would help compensate his leg injury and allow him to take his service dog along with him anywhere, everywhere he may want to go. I started that day on my first disabled veteran bike build. With the amazing help from my friends, family, and the community we managed to come up with the funds and built him a beautiful bike that got him back on the road. And that was the beginning of Wheels for Warriors, a mission that continues to this day.
